At around 8:18 a.m. Saturday morning, about sixty firefighters from Quebec City were called to respond to a building on Boulevard Pierre-Bertrand.
The Quebec Fire Protection Service (SPCIQ) assumed there was a person in the building because there was a car nearby.
But the SPCIQ's first search for victims ultimately turned out negatively; there was no one there, says spokesman Alexandre Lajoie.
The firefighters then decided on a defensive strategy and extinguished the building from the outside as there was a risk of collapse. “A short time later there was also a partial collapse of the roof when no one was in the building,” mentions Mr. Lajoie.
The house or the rest of the structure was finally demolished by an excavator around 4:38 p.m.
The SPCIQ mentions that there were no injuries in the operation.
The fire department's investigation revealed that the fire was an accident.
