The wars have left their mark on entire decades in a devastating and incredibly sad way. These armed conflicts were later recounted in cinema, where they highlighted the apparent strength and resilience of certain men.

This production by Mel Gibson takes cinemagoers back to the time of the Second World War, which has already been documented in detail. However, it stands out because it focuses on the military career of doctor Desmond T. Doss (played by Andrew Garfield), who refused to shoot other people. Despite everything, his contribution on the range was recognized with the Medal of Honor, a first for an American who did not fire a single bullet into the enemy. The feature film, which was nominated five times for the Oscars in 2017, allowed its creators to get their hands on two golden statuettes.

Several major filmmakers have decided to tell the story of the war. Christopher Nolan is part of this group. He not only wrote this feature film, but also directed it. The acclaimed screenwriter and director also had a soft spot for World War II, but he focused on one particular moment: that of Operation Dynamo. This daring mission was launched to rescue around 400,000 soldiers surrounded by the Germans in Dunkirk, France. I've managed Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh and Cillian Murphy – in addition to singer Harry Styles! – Nolan's thriller grossed more than $500 million at the international box office and converted three of its eight nominations at the 2018 Oscars.

Forget the Bradley Cooper of the hits “A Star Is Born,” “The Bright Side” and “The Aftermath.” In front of Clint Eastwood's camera, the American becomes Chris Kyle, a man who knows how to defeat enemies and protect his comrades like no other. On the battlefield, fighters know they have the best protection available. However, when the confident and unflappable sniper is a star with bullets flying, things are different when real life comes around again. He is both a father and a husband and appears vulnerable. A heavy weight to carry.

This German production is the latest adaptation of the acclaimed novel of the same name and takes filmgoers back 107 years to the First World War. She is particularly interested in Paul Bäumer, a 17-year-old teenager who joins the ranks of the Bundeswehr. Unfortunately for him, he is simply unwilling to experience the nameless horrors he will face, where the dead will no longer be counted. His friends and compatriots are no longer prepared for this. The vision they had imagined of their time in the trenches is a thousand miles from the harsh reality. The feature film received numerous awards in 2023, including the Oscar for Best International Film.

Produced by HBO, this biographical work takes moviegoers back to the Vietnam War in the mid-1960s. This historic armed conflict is seen through the eyes of American President Lyndon B. Johnson, played by the late Michael Gambon. With his close watch, he must decide whether the United States should withdraw from this fight or rather do its part. Opinions differ about the strategy to be pursued. The cast also includes the experienced Donald Sutherland and Alec Baldwin.
