At least two Israeli civilians, a mother and a son, died this Sunday (14) in northern Israel, in an area close to the border with Lebanon, after an antitank missile attack claimed by the Islamic group Hezbollah hit their home in the agricultural region.
According to the medical service, Mira Ayalon, 76, was seriously injured and died in hospital. His son Barak Ayalon, aged around 40, was identified as dead at the scene. Mira's husband and Barak's father were slightly injured and are receiving medical treatment.
Hours earlier, this Saturday (13), Tel Aviv claimed to have killed at least four men it classified as terrorists for entering the country through the border with Lebanon. Israel did not claim that the men belonged to Hezbollah, nor did the Lebanese movement claim that they were victims of the incident.
The clash occurred in the agricultural region of Shebaa Farms, on the triple border between Israel, Lebanon and Syria, a disputed area that Tel Aviv calls the Har Dov sector.
A report by the AFP agency shows that at least 190 people have died in the border region in the last three months since the beginning of the war against Hamas, a Palestinian group supported by Hezbollah. Among the victims were 141 fighters from the Lebanese group. The Israeli army has so far reported 13 Israeli deaths, including nine soldiers.
The developments of the weekend are a reminder of the fear of an expansion of the war that is raging in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas and which will end one hundred days this Sunday. Since the beginning of the conflict, there have also been mutual attacks on Hezbollah on Israel's northern border with Lebanon.
The Lebanese group, which sometimes assumes the role of state in a country facing a severe social and economic crisis, is an ally of the Palestinian Hamas faction and receives logistical and military support from the Shiite regime that controls Iran.
This Sunday, in a message addressed to the US government, one of the leaders of the Islamic group stated that the situation in Lebanon and the crisis in the Red Sea (which concerns the Houthi rebels in Yemen) will only end when the war breaks out in Gaza and ends. .
The Palestinian Ministry of Health has updated the number of victims in Gaza. Since October 7, around 24,000 people have died and another 60,500 have been injured in the Palestinian strip bordering Israel. Due to the predominantly young population in the Gaza Strip, most victims are women and minors.
Hundreds of people gathered again in central Tel Aviv to demand the release of civilians still being held hostage by Hamas. They held signs with photos and names of friends and relatives.
Another act also marked the 100th day of the conflict in the capital. In the early hours of the morning, people danced to the sounds of electronic music from DJ Artifex. He was the last to perform at the music festival held in a region near Gaza and was attacked on October 7 by Hamas men who carried out a massacre in space.
From a political perspective, the signal was that there is no deadline for ending the current conflict. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, head of an ultraright coalition, said in parliament in Jerusalem, where he was debating approval of an amendment to the 2024 budget to increase funding available for war activities, that the war “will need a lot more.” Months”.
“We included much higher security spending in the new budget than we intended,” Bibi, as the politician is known, said, according to local newspaper The Times of Israel.
