This is what members of the organization told Prensa Latina, who are taking part this weekend in the traditional hug festival of the Communist Party in Parque O'Higgins in the capital.
“In the past, we were present at the most important national cultural and political event organized by a party,” said the President of the Coordinator for Solidarity with Cuba, Carlos Lagos.
He explained that every year many friends of the island visit the stand because they are aware of the need to support a country that is in solidarity with all the people of the world and especially with the Chilean people.
Lagos recalled the friendship that existed between the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and President Salvador Allende, which, he said, goes beyond the participants of this party and also becomes part of this friendship.
He reported that this year was the XXVIII. There will be a National Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, which will take place in the city of Valdivia and will be attended by delegates from all over the country, from Arica to Punta Arenas.
Pedro Bronzic, member of the coordinator, pointed to the origin of the Hugging Festival in the 1980s, still during the dictatorship, when many met secretly to know that they were alive.
“Here we gather communist activists and friends from the left and progressives to wish each other success and continue to work for solidarity,” he said.
And he added: “We are fighting to end the criminal blockade against Cuba and the genocide in Gaza. That is our job and we will be there.”
Solidarity with Cuba and Palestine is present at numerous stands throughout the park.
The Hugs Festival also includes collectives that support Cuba, such as “December 2,” “The Internationalists,” and “Siboney,” among others.
