Dancing On Ice fans claim they have already chosen their winner as the star is branded “absolutely brilliant” by the show's judges for skating week one

Dancing On Ice viewers have already crowned Ryan Thomas the winner after he impressed them with his first performance of the series on Sunday.

Former Coronation Street actor Ryan, 39, and his professional skating partner Amani Fancy, 26, topped the list with 26.5 points from the judges.

Ryan pirouetted as he delivered an energetic performance to Kings of Leon's “Sex On Fire.”

Judge Oti Mabuse said: “I didn’t expect that, it was absolutely brilliant.”

And it seems viewers at home were just as impressed, with many taking to social media to predict he would be crowned this year's champion.

Elsewhere, Dancing On Ice viewers dubbed Ricky Hatton “the new Todd Carty” as the former boxer hit the rink in the series premiere on Sunday.

Ricky wore a boxing outfit and knee pads as he mimicked moves from his sport on the ice, doing push-ups with his skating partner Robin Johnstone to the Rocky movie theme song “Gonna Fly Now” by Bill Conti.

Former boxing world champion Ricky, 45, received a total score of 12.5 out of 40 possible points from the jury.

Judge Ashley Banjo said his performance was “iconic” and he could be proud of the audience’s reaction.

However, Ricky's routine left fans of the show at home in hysterics as they compared him to former EastEnders star Todd Carty, who took part in the show in 2009 and became known for his numerous mishaps – including the time he fell off the rink and walked straight back out of the studio while fighting not to fall to the ground.

“Ricky is the new Todd Carty,” someone else wrote, while another viewer pointed out, “Ricky is definitely this year's Todd Carty.”

Someone else joked: “Ricky Hatton makes Todd Carty look like a pro.”

While another viewer asked: “Is this giving anyone Todd Carty vibes?”

Someone else wrote: “Well Ricky Hatton didn't fall over… Unfortunately that's the only good thing I can say about his performance.”

“Ricky Hatton… bless him.” All he can do is knee slides and push-ups. 12.5 out of 40,” another viewer wrote.

While someone else remarked: “Ricky Hatton on #DancingOnIce my goodness. That was painful.”

Another person wrote: “Ricky Hatton & Robin This was as horrible as I imagined.” It's painful to watch, please throw in the towel. So little skating.'

Judge Jaye Torvill said: “Well done for doing such difficult exercises.”

She added: “We need to see more of just skating.” “It's improving but you could do more.”

Hannah became emotional as she spoke about her “cherished” time singing in S Club 7, but said she had had an extremely tough year following the death of her former bandmate Paul Cattermole.

Before their performance, Hannah said: “Me and Paul grew up together and he was part of the band.”

“When Paul died it was hard. It was a challenging year. Things will never be the same again.'

Love Island winner and West End star Amber Davies received praise for a “beautiful” performance as the show returned on Sunday.

Canadian skater Simon Senecal lifted Amber into the air and performed a box split as they performed Kylie Minogue's Hold On To Now on Sunday's launch show on ITV1.

The couple received a score of 25 points from the jury.

Judge Jayne Torvill said: “I loved all the beautiful positions, I think this is the best spiral I've seen on the ice in a long time.”

Meanwhile, Emmerdale actress Roxy Shahidi was lifted onto a helicopter ride and praised by judge Oti for a “beautiful, sensual performance” in Say Grace's “You Don't Own Me” with French ice dancer Sylvain Longchambon.

The audience booed as Roxy and Sylvain received a total of 20 points from the judges.

The return of Dancing On Ice also saw Holly Willoughby return to TV screens, having left This Morning in October after 14 years on the sofa.

The 42-year-old presenter has hosted the ITV skate show since 2006 and now co-hosts with Stephen Mulhern.

Holly worked with Mulhern decades ago on the ITV Saturday morning children's show Ministry Of Mayhem.

Dancing On Ice continues on Sunday January 21 at 6.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
