Nowadays everyone is a critic. But there is only one Critics Choice Award, where professional skeptics can choose their favorite films and series from the previous year.
Last year's host, Chelsea Handler, returned to lead the ceremony, where Oppenheimer led all film nominees with eight wins: Best Picture, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr., Best Cinematography , Best Score, Best Editing and Best Visual Effects. That film's counterpart, Barbie, released in July, took home a half-dozen awards: Best Comedy, Best Original Screenplay, Best Song for “I'm Just Ken,” Best Production Design, Best Costume Design and Best Hair and Makeup.
Elsewhere, Emma Stone won best actress for her performance in Poor Things, and The Holdovers star trio took home all the trophies: Best Actor for Paul Giamatti, Best Supporting Actress for Da'Vine Joy Randolph and Best Young Actress for Dominic Sessa.
On the TV side, Succession, The Bear and Beef dominated the Drama, Comedy and Limited Series categories. The final season of “Succession” won the top drama category, and also won Best Actress for Sarah Snook and Best Actor for Kieran Culkin. Season 2 of The Bear received awards for Best Actor for Jeremy Allen White, Best Actress for Ayo Edebiri and Best Supporting Actor for Ebon Moss-Bachrach, as well as Best Comedy. Beef stars Steven Yeun, Ali Wong and Mario Bello won in their respective categories in addition to the limited series' top honor.
