Israel attacks Gaza Strip; Gaza Health Ministry Says Death Toll Exceeds 24,100

The Israeli military said Monday that its operations included the killing of five militants in the northern Gaza Strip as well as air and ground strikes.

Israeli forces carried out new airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, while the Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza said on Monday that Israeli strikes had killed more than 130 people in the past day.

The Israeli military said on Monday that its operations included the killing of five militants in the northern Gaza Strip “who were trying to find weapons,” as well as airstrikes and ground strikes that destroyed weapons caches in the Khan Younis area of the southern Gaza Strip.

Gaza's Health Ministry, which makes no distinction between combatants and civilians in its casualty figures, said on Monday that the death toll from Israel's military operation had risen to at least 24,100 and more than 60,000 wounded.

Israel began its military campaign to eliminate Hamas after Hamas militants advanced into southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,200 people and capturing 240 in the terrorist attack.

“No ceasefire can be unilateral and no ceasefire can be unconditional,” Wong said at a news conference before departing for a trip that includes stops in Jordan, Israel, the West Bank and the United Arab Emirates.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue his country's war against Hamas until victory.

Netanyahu told a news conference on Saturday evening that Israel would not be deterred by allegations that it was committing genocide against Palestinians.

“No one will stop us, not The Hague, not the axis of evil, no one,” he said, referring to Hamas, which is fighting Israel in Gaza, to the Iran-backed Hezbollah fighters, who are fighting from Lebanon Israel has fired, and the Houthi militias have fired drones and rockets to attack merchant ships in the Red Sea as a sign of support for Hamas

The Israeli prime minister was speaking after a two-day hearing at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, where South Africa accused Israel of genocide in a trial. Israel has rejected the accusation as slanderous and hypocritical

Israel says an immediate end to the war would mean victory for Hamas, an Islamist militant group that has been designated a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union and Britain, among others. Hamas has ruled Gaza since 2007 and says it is determined to destroy Israel.

A preliminary decision from the International Court of Justice is expected in a few weeks. Judgments are binding but difficult to enforce

Israel is under increasing international pressure to end the war, which has led to widespread suffering in addition to the death toll. According to the Hamas-run Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, around two thirds of the dead are women and children.

According to the military, 186 Israeli soldiers have been killed and 1,099 others injured in Gaza since Israel's ground operation began in late October. More than 85% of the 2.3 million people in the Gaza Strip have been displaced due to the Israeli air and ground offensive and large parts of the territory have been destroyed.
