The new King and Queen of Denmark visited favelas and museums in Brazil

This Sunday (14) Crown Prince Frederik became King of Denmark. His mother, Queen Margrethe II, abdicated after 52 years as monarch. His Australian wife Mary is now Queen Consort of the Danes.

The two are the protagonists of the gossip about Frederik's alleged betrayal of the Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova. A magazine published photos of their meeting in Madrid, Spain, taken by a paparazzo. The woman said they were just good friends.

Mary seemed unconvinced: she avoided making eye contact with her husband at public events. According to surveys of subjects, the new queen is more popular and rated higher than the new king. They will celebrate their 20th anniversary of marriage in May. They have four children.

The couple was in Brazil in September 2012. In São Paulo they attended an event with design and gastronomy typical of the Scandinavian country, an exhibition by fellow architect Arne Jacobsen and the Tomie Ohtake Institute. In Rio, they discovered social projects related to the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games.

Mary was alone in the community of Cidade de Deus, where she watched a dance performance with children and received a berimbau. At the Fernandes Figueira Institute, the Princess praised the work of collecting breast milk.

During their visit to Lagoa Santa (MG), the European couple attended the inauguration of the Peter Lund Museum, inspired by the career of the Danish naturalist, considered the father of paleontology and archeology in Brazil. They were honored at a gala dinner in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Frederik and Mary left a good impression. Always available, smiling and showing interest in Brazil. Two years earlier, the queen's other son, Prince Joachim, also caused sympathy when he visited São Paulo with his wife, Princess Marie.

In fact, in 2017, a team from “Globo Repórter” hosted Copenhagen Castle to talk about the importance of not wasting food.

Margrethe II has only been to Brazil once, in 1999, when she was received in Brasília by President Fernando Henrique Cardoso and attended a screening of the film “Central do Brasil,” which earned Fernanda Montenegro an Oscar nomination. The always goodnatured queen also visited São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná and Bahia.
