This Sunday (14) Crown Prince Frederik became King of Denmark. His mother, Queen Margrethe II, abdicated after 52 years as monarch. His Australian wife Mary is now Queen Consort of the Danes.
The two are the protagonists of the gossip about Frederik's alleged betrayal of the Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova. A magazine published photos of their meeting in Madrid, Spain, taken by a paparazzo. The woman said they were just good friends.
Mary seemed unconvinced: she avoided making eye contact with her husband at public events. According to surveys of subjects, the new queen is more popular and rated higher than the new king. They will celebrate their 20th anniversary of marriage in May. They have four children.
The couple was in Brazil in September 2012. Frederik and Mary left a good impression. Always available, smiling and showing interest in Brazil. Two years earlier, the queen's other son, Prince Joachim, also caused sympathy when he visited São Paulo with his wife, Princess Marie.
