New Uruguayan political parties will take part in the elections

The elections will take place on October 27 and will determine the presidential candidate, who must receive more than 50 plus one of the percent votes.

The second round of voting for the presidential duo will take place on Sunday, November 24th, between the two candidates with the most votes in the first.

Before that, the presidential and parliamentary candidates will be determined in the internal elections on Sunday, June 30th.

According to Korzeniak, 22 parties are registered with the electoral court, of which 11, the majority with parliamentary representation, are approved.

The Workers' Parties, the Animalist Green Party and the Digital Party are registered, although they do not occupy seats in the legislature.

Other political organizations already admitted to the competition include Basta Ya and Identidad Soberana; the Libertarian Party of Uruguay and the Constitutional Environmentalist Party.

There are others awaiting court approval, including the recent Harmony Party filing.

The majority of these emerging groups are seeking parliamentary seats.

According to the election minister, the parties approved by the court will be defined in May.

The latest polls from December and last year's average put the opposition Frente Amplio (left-wing coalition, FA) and its main presidential candidates as favorites.

But it's an early reading in a fight that must end.

In 2019, the FA won in the first round and the current governing coalition ended in the second, which is why President Luis Lacalle Pou has ruled since the first of March 2020.

From the Uruguayan left they are working to ensure that history does not repeat itself. Previous surveys confirm such efforts.
