The facility currently houses 53 artists, but the house is in trouble and relies on donations. Stepan Nercessian, president of the Artists' Retreat, criticized the lack of mobilization of the artist class itself: “I reach out to businessmen, lawyers and politicians and ask them not to cut off the water. But artists have to have a conscience, they should always come here. When they come, they are thrilled. I even went to a psychologist to understand why artists even mobilize to save hamsters and here we have to ask for God's love. The psychologist replied that perhaps it is a remnant of that past, that they do not want to see themselves in this image of “look what will happen to you,” he said in an interview with Globo.

In addition to Paulo Cesar, Marieta also met the 67yearold actor Silvio Pozatto. He came to the facility a year and a half ago. The actor strives for “a safer and more peaceful life.” Silveio has been suffering from Parkinson's for 12 years, is single and has no children. His only companions are his friends from Retiro and a cat: “I like it here. And I want to undergo electronic implantation in the brain to restore my speech and movements and return to acting,” he said.
