NFL: Bill Belichick met with a team

Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick could quickly land a job in the NFL after interviewing with the Atlanta Falcons.

The team itself confirmed on Monday that it had met the 71-year-old. According to NFL Network, the eight-time Super Bowl winner sat down with owner Arthur Blank to discuss the head coaching position left vacant by the firing of Arthur Smith last week.

The interest between the two camps would be mutual and it could be a good challenge for Belichick. The Falcons haven't played .500 since 2017, and they went 7-10 during Smith's three seasons at the helm.

In addition to the former Pats big man, Atlanta has spoken to five other candidates so far, including former Arizona Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks.

Belichick's 24-year relationship with the Patriots ended by mutual consent last Thursday. The team was eliminated from the playoffs for the third time in four years. His successor was former star linebacker Jerod Mayo.
