Brain Navi Announces 100th NaoTrac Surgical Procedure

Hsinchu, Oct. 13, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Brain Navi announced the completion of the 100th case using its NaoTrac neurosurgical navigation robot. The 100th case was reported by Dr. Hao-Yu Chuang, head of the neurosurgery department at Annan Hospital in Tainan, Taiwan.

“It is a pleasure to witness this important milestone that demonstrates the continued clinical acceptance of the NaoTrac surgical navigation robot. “I am pleased to continue to offer this state-of-the-art surgical technology to my patients,” said Dr. Hao-Yu Chuang.”One of the main advantages compared to other systems is that we can visualize the cranial anatomy in any position of the patient , including lateral and prone, can be accurately captured.”

The system has already been installed in several hospitals in Taiwan. Director of the neurosurgery department of China Medical University Hospital Chun-Chung Chen said, “In the past, we could only blindly treat ICH blood clot, now we can plan the route, check in real time, and perform the procedure perfectly.” An additional director, Dr. Jeng-Hung Guo, said, “NaoTrac's rapid registration results in shorter operation time and faster recovery of patients. NaoTrac has performed very well in intracerebral hemorrhage, especially in hematomas with smaller volume greater than 30 ml but with severe symptoms, and offers these patients an alternative solution rather than waiting for self-absorption.”

The first user of the NaoTrac surgical robot is Hualien Tzu Chi Medical Center, which has been using the system for brain surgery since the first clinical case on November 7, 2018. Superintendent Dr. Shinn-Zong Lin said: “NaoTrac is exactly what all neurosurgeons want. It can make any doctor's dream come true and allow disabled patients to return to life.” Professor Tsung-Lang Chiu published the first article about NaoTrac in a medical journal, demonstrating its effectiveness and economic benefits: “The NaoTrac “The robotic system can be easily integrated into our practice and workflows and brings efficiency benefits to our neurosurgeons and hospitals.”

To eliminate time-consuming and frustrating registration processes, NaoTrac leverages computer vision technology and completes patient and instrument registration within 30 seconds to 3 minutes. The NaoTrac system received CE Mark in April 2021 and Taiwan FDA approval in July 2022. During the initial launch and international meetings, Brain Navi was able to gather valuable feedback from several neurosurgeons and integrate these insights into the NaoTrac platform to meet to market needs.

Dr. Jerry Chen, CEO of Brain Navi, said: “We are very pleased that all 100 of these procedures were completed without complications. 2024 will be the year that marks the beginning of our international expansion as, in addition to Taiwan, we will also work with partners in the USA, Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Latin America and Malaysia. This will allow us to introduce this technology to more hospitals to streamline operating room workflows, ultimately benefiting more patients.”
