The documentary series Secrets of the Jungle travels around the planet in search of its secrets, and this installment shows how a team of paleontologists in Madagascar discover a fossil unlike any known animal. Ken Loach began the century without changing the spirit of his cinema in the least, determined to spread diatribes against the triumphant face of Thatcher's England. The Gang presents a very harsh portrayal of the lives of railway workers who face hopelessness and deprivation. This combative film strips the plot of its dramatic progression to open a bracket in the lives of its characters, which the viewer accesses to conclude that there is a before and after that is just as dramatic as the present that Loach gives him allowed to view.
