180 degree turnaround: 50% discount is available again at Provigo

Quebecers can end their week smiling. Popular dissatisfaction has overwhelmed Loblaw, which has just announced that it will once again offer 50% off ugly fruits and vegetables and certain baked goods at its fifty Provigo stores.

The Ontario giant increased it to 30% on Tuesday, sparking strong reactions from Provigo customers in Quebec.

“We saw and listened to the frustration and dissatisfaction of our customers,” summarizes spokeswoman Johanne Héroux in an interview with Le Journal.

The return of the holidays is “difficult for everyone,” she notes. Since Tuesday, Loblaw has been flooded with complaints on social media and in the media.

“Customers were also very disappointed in the store. “We didn’t expect such a big outcry,” the spokesman admits.

Although Loblaw knows that “every change in policy leads to a reaction,” Quebecers’ was too strong to be ignored.

The 50% discounts should be available again on Monday at all Provigo stores in Quebec. Loblaw's systems will be reprogrammed over the weekend to remove the “30%” designation.

Back to normal

Tuesday's decision surprised Sylvain Charlebois. The expert also found it “weird timing after the holidays.”

Fruits, vegetables, breads, juices… In recent years, many Quebecers have become accustomed to finding certain items at half price at the end of the aisles in order to reduce their grocery bill.

So you can continue to do this.
