According to press reports, the official ceremony took place at the Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa, the country's capital, in front of almost 80,000 people.

In a statement, the Presidency Press Office said that when taking the oath before the Constitutional Court, Tshisekedi swore to respect and defend the constitution and laws and to uphold national unity.

Addressing those present, Tshisekedi promised to focus the president's work on “creating more jobs, protecting household purchasing power by stabilizing the exchange rate, ensuring security much more effectively, continuing to diversify our economy and a better to ensure access to basic services”.

He emphasized restoring political stability and security to the nation and avoiding repeating what he called “mistakes of the past.” We want a more united, stronger and more prosperous Congo, he said.

Tshisekedi was re-elected in the December 20 election, which was followed by allegations of fraud by opposition candidates. National and regional legislators and local councilors were also elected on this day.

The Constitutional Court upheld the complaints, but declared them unfounded due to a lack of evidence and was of the opinion that the irregularities that occurred had no decisive influence on the election result.

Delegations from China, Japan, the USA, Djibouti, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and Malawi took part in the swearing-in ceremonies.
