biology
Flight time and wintering

The underside of the yellow hindwing has evenly distributed dark scales. The length (the length of an object is the distance between its two extreme ends…) of the forewing of the Aethionema pierid varies between 19 and 24 mm. The butterfly has a predominantly whitish color. The upper surface of the forewing has a gray, square spot at the tip. The underside of the forewing is black, free of any markings or spots (graphics). A few dark scales are scattered on the underside of the hind wings of specimens of the first generation of the year.

It is the direction in which…) Asia (Asia is one of the five continents or part of the supercontinents) before Eurasia or Afro-Eurasia the …) in isolated colonies. In France it occurs in Hautes-Alpes, Drôme, Isère, Pyrénées-Orientales and Aude. In Europe, the butterfly is also found in the eastern part of Spain, Italy, the Balkans and Bulgaria. In Asia it occurs from Turkey to north of Iran.
Biotope
The butterfly relies on grassy rocky slopes and hot stone slopes between 1,000 and 2,200 meters above sea level (elevation is the vertical height of a place or object relative to a plane…).
Protection
The Aethionema moth is included in the red list of insects in mainland France (1994).
