Patrick Roy left no one indifferent and the news of his hiring as head coach of the New York Islanders caused a huge reaction in the hockey world.

“It’s happening,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Oh my God, he's back with a vengeance. NO. Not Patty [Patrick Roy]. He's the only guy I didn't want to see. The Islanders could win the Cup. “It’s a scary mindset.”
Holy shit, it's happening. Oh my god, he's back with a vengeance. No. Not Patty. This is the guy I didn't want to see. The Islanders could win the Cup. That's a scary attitude. https://t.co/XCYGOhAsiZ

Former Montreal Canadiens defenseman PK Subban used his platform of one million subscribers on X to share his feelings. In his opinion, the rest of the Islanders' season will be very interesting to watch, although he obviously would have liked Lou Lamoriello to react more quickly to his club's failures.
Patrick Roy's successor after his first stint with the Quebec Remparts from 2005 to 2013, Philippe Boucher, wished him good luck in his new role.
Big Saturday for former Remparts. Pat Roy with the Islanders and Phil Boucher changed his FB profile picture 😅😅. Good luck Pat. Well deserved!!!

Finally, the front page of the New York Post caused a stir because it read “Roy of Light,” a subtle pun on his last name.
