Why are we so easily offended?

Search the Scriptures

A wise man is slow to anger, and it is his honor to forget wrongdoing.
Proverbs 19:11

We often talk about forgiveness, but what about offense? Where does she come from ? Why are we so easily offended?

The offense often remains hidden; it manifests itself in all relationships. The reason for this is often our unrealistic expectations. We expect some people to meet our deep needs when they are unable to do so. If we do not let go of these expectations and forgive those who have not met them, we will live in permanent frustration. The insult will take root and poison our hearts and those around us.

We can be offended by our parents or by authority figures (pastor, teacher, sports coach). We can also be empowered by God, the ultimate authority figure. The perception we have of him is based precisely on our history and the experience we have with authority figures. We can constantly feel offended by God, for example when He doesn't respond the way we want or when difficult things happen to us.

When we have experienced abuse, a miscarriage, a divorce, an illness, or a layoff, we wonder why God allows this.
He is all-powerful, why doesn't he intervene? This is how we fall into the trap of insults. Without realizing it, we are moving away from the only person who can truly help and comfort us: Jesus.

If we don't give up the offensive, we will become bitter and sidelined. It will separate us from God and prevent us from releasing love because a bitter heart is incapable of loving.

So choose to be reconciled with God today and let Him tell you who He really is!

Listen to the voice of God

Have you been insulted by God at least once in your life? Take the time to listen to what he wants to tell you about it.

Praying means talking to God like you would a close friend who loves you and can hear everything. Here is an example of a prayer: “Lord, forgive me for harboring resentment against you and many people in my heart. Amen.”

Praise God

To praise God is to acknowledge his goodness. Today, make a conscious decision to look to His goodness that is new every morning, rather than to frustration and disappointment. Thank Him and praise Him with all your heart, for He continues to show His goodness to you and will continue to do so.

Take action today

Now what can you do to free your heart? Write down the names of the people who have offended you. Then resolve in your heart and before God to forgive them and let go of all bitterness and resentment. You can then pray for them and bless them.

Honor the Lord

Our journey for this day ends. Let us pray together to honor our God.

“Lord, you are a God of love and you show me the way. Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, amen!”
