The escalation continues. Lebanon's Hezbollah said it attacked a military base in northern Israel “for the second time” on Tuesday, January 23, in response to “recent assassinations and repeated attacks on civilians” in Lebanon and Syria. In a statement, the movement claims to have attacked the Meron base with “a large number of missiles.” Hezbollah had already announced on January 6 that it had attacked this base in retaliation for Israel's elimination of Hamas's number two base in Lebanon. A heavy toll. The Israeli army spokesman announced the deaths of 24 reservists killed in the Gaza Strip the previous day. This is the highest daily damage on the Israeli side since the ground offensive on Palestinian territory.
Fight in Khan Younes. Israeli forces claim to have “surrounded” the entire town of Khan Younes, the epicenter of fighting in southern Gaza. The city was the birthplace of Yahya Sinouar, the Hamas Gaza leader considered the architect of the Oct. 7 attack.
Communication interruption. The Palestinian telecommunications operator Paltel announced this new cut as a result of Israeli military operations in the area where the situation for the civilian population was already critical.
