This new song is called Selfish, which means “selfish” in French. This is the first excerpt from his sixth studio album, Everything I Thought I Was, or in French, Everything I thought I was.
Netizens were quick to play off the irony, believing the song's title was “appropriate” and “autobiographical” after taking into account his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears' statements about their relationship. The pop star revealed last year that she became pregnant while dating Justin Timberlake between 1999 and 2002 and that he pressured her to have an abortion.
“It was a surprise, but for me it was not a tragedy,” she wrote in her memoir “The Woman in Me.” “I loved Justin so much. I always thought we would start a family one day. It would just be a lot sooner than I expected. But Justin certainly wasn't happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren't ready to have a baby in our lifetime, we were way too young. »
She then confessed that she had had a voluntary abortion: “If it had been up to me, I would never have done it.” But Justin was absolutely sure that he didn't want to be a father. To this day it is one of the most painful things I have ever experienced in my life. »
After the new song was announced, comments quickly piled up on her social media pages. “An autobiographical song based on the title,” one person wrote. “Given his history, I'd say the name is apt,” another added.
Britney Spears also has a song called Selfish, which was a bonus track on her 2011 album Femme Fatale.
