Frontier Airlines adds $19 flights from Grand Rapids Metro Airport

Promotional tariffs come with small print and blackout days.

Frontier Airlines is adding two new nonstop routes from Detroit Metro Airport and a third to Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids at a promotional fare of $19. Upgrades to premium seats with extra legroom cost an additional $19 per segment.

The Denver-based airline announced Tuesday that new routes from Detroit Metro include four weekly flights to Baltimore-Washington International Airport beginning April 10 and four weekly flights to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport beginning April 22.

The new route from Grand Rapids Airport will operate three times weekly to Dallas-Fort Worth, starting May 16.

These fares come with fine print: Tickets must be purchased by January 25th and are valid until June 5th. Fares apply to flights Monday to Thursday and Saturday. There are also black-out days. Baggage and seat reservations in advance incur higher costs.

Frontier claims it is the most fuel efficient of the major U.S. airlines. In addition to the new flights from Michigan, Frontier is also adding flights to airports across the country, from New York to Los Angeles and San Francisco to Miami. In addition, routes will be added to three airports in the Caribbean.

“This is a massive expansion of our coast-to-coast and international operations as part of our focus on growth on underserved and overpriced routes,” Josh Flyr, vice president of network and operational design at Frontier, said in a statement. “More destinations and higher frequency mean a greater number of consumers will soon be able to enjoy Frontier’s convenient and affordable Low Fares Done Right.”
