It is time to take responsibility and convene an international conference with a clear goal: to defend international law and implement United Nations resolutions through decisive action by all states, organizations and the organization itself, the leader said.
Al Maliki also called for the recognition and admission of the State of Palestine to the world's highest forum as he addressed the Security Council meeting to address the widening crisis in the enclave.
According to the Palestinian representative, the ongoing war is a deliberate attempt to inflict maximum pain on the Palestinian population through the combination of three factors.
Israel's offensive includes the most brutal and indiscriminate bombing of the postwar period; massive destruction and a cruel siege that deprives the population of the necessities of life; along with forced displacement on a scale and speed unseen in modern history.
“No home, hospital, school, mosque, church or UN refugee agency shelter is safe from Israeli bombing; “2,000-ton bombs were dropped with no regard for the lives of civilians,” he warned.
According to the representative, more than 25,000 people died as a result of the attacks, including more than 11,000 children; while more than 63,000 Palestinians were injured, another thousand were maimed and permanently disabled, and more than seven thousand were buried under the rubble.
“The world is calling for a ceasefire and we are running out of time,” the Chancellor added, recalling the international consensus on the need to create two states.
“The alternative to freedom, justice and peace is what is happening now,” he said.
