This Tuesday (23) the nominees for the Oscar 2024 were announced. Despite some very deserved nominations including America Ferrera and Ryan Gosling's for Best Actress/Supporting Actress there were other “nudges” to talk about. Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig, the star and director of “Barbie,” respectively, were not nominated in the main categories.
Ryan Gosling, who plays Ken doll in the film, made the comments in a statement obtained by The Wrap. The star commented that he felt honored with his nomination. “I am incredibly honored to be nominated by my peers alongside such remarkable artists in a year with so many great films,” said Gosling. He added: “And I never thought I would say this, but I also feel incredibly honored and proud to portray a plastic doll named Ken.”
However, the actor defended his “Barbie” colleagues, who were ignored in the “Director” and “Best Actress” categories. “But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie film without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two main people behind this historic and globally acclaimed film,” said Ryan.
The Notebook star continued: “Without her talent, courage and genius, no one in the film would have been recognized. To say I’m disappointed they weren’t nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.”

Gosling praised the film's production and the work of Margot and Greta: “Against all odds, with nothing more than a pair of soulless, scantily clad and thankfully crotchless puppets, they made us laugh, broke our hearts, promoted culture and wrote history.” . Their work should be recognized alongside the other nominees who are also very deserving.”
He concluded by saying that he was happy about his other costars' nominations: “Still, I'm very happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making this film so groundbreaking.” The production won eight Oscar nominations, including in the Best Picture category. With two nominations in the “Best Original Song” category for “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish and “I'm Just Ken” by Mark Ronson and Ryan Gosling, the film also received awards in these areas, including “ Adapted Script”, “Production Design” and “Costume Design”.
Actress America Ferrera had previously expressed her anger over the case: “I was extremely disappointed that they weren't nominated,” said the actress. She was full of praise for her colleagues: “They are my girls and I want their incredible work to be celebrated. They made history, they set a new standard. Not only did they break box office records, but they also did something that resonated around the world, and the impact of their actions will continue to be felt in our culture. I think I agree with many people's desire to be recognized for this,” America said. Click here to see the actress' full statement.
