A Delta Air Lines Boeing plane lost a nose wheel before taking off from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Saturday.
A Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) spokesman said in a statement that the Boeing 757 plane lost its nose wheel while preparing to take off for Bogota, Colombia, shortly after 11 a.m. All passengers were flown out and taken back to the terminal by bus, the spokesman said.
The spokesman also said the FAA would investigate the incident.
A Delta spokesman said in a statement that the nose gear tire had “detached from the landing gear,” adding that the company apologized “to our customers for the inconvenience.”
This comes as Boeing is also facing questions about a door plug that ripped off an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9, causing the plane to make an emergency landing. This also led to an investigation by the FAA and the National Safety Transportation Board.
The FAA later grounded 171 Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft so they could undergo inspection.
Last summer, the left main landing gear tires of a Delta Boeing 737 burst while landing at Atlanta Airport and caught fire. The airline said at the time that 190 passengers had to be evacuated via emergency slides and at least one customer was injured in the incident.
