New Zealand is sending personnel to support military operations against Houthis in Yemen
New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon announced Tuesday that his country is sending a six-member team to “support any future military action against Houthi targets in Yemen and the Red Sea.”
Luxon made this statement in a press conference today, in which he explained that the decision was in response to the “Houthi actions” against ships in the Red Sea, which he described as “illegal, unacceptable and deeply destabilizing.”
Luxon, who has led a conservative coalition government in New Zealand since late last year, stressed that “freedom of navigation is an integral part of New Zealand, as is security in trade,” pointing to the role of the Red Sea as a key border crossing for the Transit of world trade.
