Pugilists will be the stars of 2024 at the Musée de la Civilization. In addition to a wrestling-themed exhibition in Quebec opening in March, this summer we can immerse ourselves in the world of gladiators of ancient Rome.
Gladiators: Heroes of the Colosseum will open its doors on June 21, the Museum of Civilization announced Wednesday.
This exhibition will be presented until September and is designed by the Italian company Contemporanea Progetti. It reveals the daily lives of these fighters from another era and offers behind-the-scenes insights into the legendary Colosseum in Rome.
In addition to a replica of the amphitheater in which gladiators faced each other in bloody battles, 160 pieces will be shown to the public. We will see helmets, leggings, weapons, surgical instruments for wound treatment, a portrait of Roman emperors, everyday objects, coins with the image of great emperors and gold jewelry.
“Gladiators: Heroes of the Coliseum will be appealing both because of its stark, human-focused theme and because it reflects Lutte. “Quebec in the Arena,” co-produced with Ex Machina and Robert Lepage,” Musée de la Civilization President and CEO Stéphan La Roche said in a press release.
The exhibition, created in 2013, was presented across Europe, the United States and, in 2015, in a supposedly more modest version at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.
