King Charles arrives at Clarence House after flying by helicopter from Sandringham to London ahead of his treatment for an enlarged prostate

King Charles was pictured arriving at Clarence House today as he returned from Norfolk for prostate surgery.

The 75-year-old monarch sat in the back seat of a liveried car that drove past a few onlookers through the mall.

Charles returned by helicopter today from Sandringham, where he rested for several days.

He was keen to share his diagnosis to encourage other men who may be experiencing symptoms to get checked in line with health advice.

It comes at a difficult time for the royal family: the Princess of Wales is recovering in hospital from planned abdominal surgery and the Duchess of York revealed yesterday that she has skin cancer.

The Princess of Wales is reportedly “doing well” after going under the knife for her abdominal surgery at the London Clinic near Regent's Park last week.

She will stay in the exclusive clinic for up to 14 days and is not expected to resume her official duties until after Easter.

Meanwhile, Sarah, 64, was diagnosed with malignant melanoma – an aggressive form of skin cancer – after having several moles removed as part of reconstructive surgery following her mastectomy in June.

One has been diagnosed with cancer and is now undergoing further medical tests to ensure the cancer was detected in its early stages.

On Tuesday, the king's second son, Prince Harry, and his wife Meghan were pictured next to Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, who wants to make Jamaica a republic – with a referendum to be held later this year.

Mr Holness told the current Prince and Princess of Wales during their trip to the Caribbean in 2022 that his country was “moving on” and intended to “fulfill our true ambitions and destiny as an independent, developed and prosperous country”.

The Sussexes' appearance came just as Harry's father, the royal, was preparing for hospital treatment for an enlarged prostate and Kate remains in hospital following abdominal surgery.

While other observers are still waiting for a statement from the Sussexes about Charles and Kate's hospitalization, royal commentator Phil Dampier told Web: “It looks like Harry and Meghan are popping up opening an envelope these days.”

“Under normal circumstances there would be nothing wrong with going to a film premiere. But at a time when his father is going under the knife and Jamaica is making noises about abandoning the monarchy, it's pretty insensitive.”

The Sussexes also posed with Jamaica's Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs, Marlene Malahoo Forte.

Ms Malahoo Forte told Sky News ahead of the king's coronation last May that an “urgent” referendum could be held as early as 2024 to “sever ties” and remove Charles as Jamaica's monarch.

“Republicanism is about us moving away from a form of government tied to a painful history of colonialism and the transatlantic slave trade,” she said.

Last week it was announced that the Princess of Wales had undergone abdominal surgery and is not expected to return to public service until after Easter.

“I must admit it was a shock when a statement arrived from Kensington Palace,” writes Eden, editor of The Chron's Diary.

“Although officials stressed that the operation was “planned”, its serious nature was reflected in the fact that she would remain in hospital for up to two weeks.

“Nowadays, hospitals are often interested in discharging patients after just a few days, even after major operations.”

“Such royal bulletins typically trivialize the nature of the health condition,” but the statement said Catherine was “unlikely to return to public life for another 11 weeks.”

“Part of my shock was because Catherine, 42, always seemed so fit and healthy and often took part in sporting activities at official engagements,” he continues.

“To add to the sense of health crisis in the royal family, Buckingham Palace released a statement later in the day announcing that King Charles, 75, would undergo a medical procedure next week.”

“Unlike the statement about Catherine, it gave details of his condition and explained that he needed treatment for an enlarged prostate. His engagements would be canceled for a “short period of time”.

“The fact that two of The Firm’s most senior members will be out of action at the same time, and Prince William wants to spend more time with his wife during her recovery, reinforces my concerns about the King’s vision of a “stripped-down” monarchy.

“In times like these, we need a strong company where other family members are willing to step into the breach.”

“And I don’t mean Prince Harry and Meghan!”
