Gresten is mourning Leopold Hubegger, who passed away peacefully forever on January 18, surrounded by his loved ones, just after his 87th birthday.
Hubegger, born in 1936, attended the commercial school in Waidhofen an der Ybbs after compulsory schooling. He started working in 1953 at the Gattringer sawmill in Scheibbs-Neustift. A year later he moved to the Stöckler sawmill in St. Valentin. In addition to his skilled worker certificate as a sawyer, he was able to gain valuable experience purchasing round timber.
In his early twenties, the rest of his life took him to Malmö, Sweden, where he spent his first three weeks trimming boards as an intern. He quickly took the initiative and introduced himself to his superior, whereupon he was appointed ship loading master. In 1962 he returned to his parents' business due to his father's health problems.
1967: marriage to Ingrid in Grein
Five years later he married his wife Ingrid in the parish church of Grein. Their marriage produced daughter Claudia in 1968, who died shortly after birth, son Leopold in 1969 and son Michael in 1971. In 1972 Leopold took over both businesses, the Gasthof zur Post, run by his wife with the strong support from his mother Johanna, and the timber trading business. In 1976 he converted the sole proprietorship into Leopold Hubegger GesmbH.
In addition to expanding domestic business operations, Hubegger established business relationships with Italy, Switzerland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Hungary. In 1991 he founded Austro-Fa in Stuhlweissenburg, Hungary. He began his well-deserved retirement on May 1, 1998 and continued to support his children with advice and support.
Granddaughters, fishing and golf – and get-togethers
His two granddaughters, Nora, born in 1996, and Anna-Maria, born in 1998, were particularly dear to his heart. She followed her academic and professional evolution with great joy and pride.
He was a member of the Austrian Fisheries Society for decades. He recovered from his everyday work life by fly fishing. He later discovered his love for golf and played on golf courses across the country and abroad. He also enjoyed accompanying his hunting friends to Africa. Leopold Hubegger loved social gatherings and participated in several clubs.
Because of his commitment, the privileged Gresten shooting club made him an honorary member in 1667. For his many years of support, he received the Floriani plaque from the Lower Austrian State Firefighters Association, the state association's highest civilian award. Together with his wife, the Hammerherren and Goldhood groups were also very important to him. He also enjoyed listening to the sounds of hunting horns. He was also a member of the Grestner Economic Community for decades.
