The new Netflix series Griselda is now available to stream – but how did the “cocaine godmother's” sons really die?

The world of drugs has returned to the big screen in the form of a new six-part miniseries from Netflix, Griselda. The series recreates the Colombian drug lord's rule and his cocaine trade in Miami in the 1980s and explores the question of why Griselda Blanco initially fled her homeland and what consequences this had.

Critics praised the actors' performances and their points of view, but members of Griselda Blanco's family spoke out: they disputed the production of the series and even wanted to file a lawsuit.

For viewers watching the drama and after watching the biopic series on the streaming giant, the question then arises: What happened to the children of the “Cocaine Godmother”? We tell you everything we know about the death of Griselda Blanco's sons.

Of Griselda Blanco's four sons, three died – leaving one survivor, Michael Corleone Blanco.

Blanco's three other sons – Osvaldo or “Ozzy”, Dixon and Uber – were all killed before their mother's death in 2012.

The deaths are covered in the Netflix limited miniseries: Dixon was attacked while walking back to his car, Ozzy was accosted and killed in a nightclub, while Uber was killed in Colombia during a drug transaction.

Michael Corleone Blanco – named in homage to the film “The Godfather” – is the only surviving son among Griselda Blanco's children, and he doesn't like the way the series airs.

According to a Rolling Stone report, he filed a 10-page motion claiming the streaming platform stole his “private artistic literary work” after two former partners allegedly shared the collected information with Netflix without his consent.

The creators of Griselda have since responded to the lawsuit, telling ET that it wasn't “their first rodeo”: They've had to deal with similar situations on two other shows they're behind, originally Narcos and Narcos Mexico.

Back in 2020, Michael Corleone Blanco told the Mirror about Griselda: “My mother was not a saint. She had to survive to do her business. But at the end of the day she was my mother. I will always honor and respect her. I love it.”

Griselda Blanco herself was killed in a drive-by shooting by an unknown assailant on a motorcycle in Colombia in 2012.

After a long prison sentence for conspiracy to manufacture, import and distribute cocaine – and later for second-degree murder – Blanco returned to Medellín in 2004 under the pretext of health problems: she had suffered a heart attack two years earlier. Griselda was last seen in public in 2007.

The biopic series Griselda has been available on Netflix since January 25, 2024.
