Colorful club life 2023: Gars kayak club with great experiences

The Gars Kayak Club had a busy year in 2023. Particularly pleasant: There were six new members: Markus Edlilnger, Johann Eichinger, James Oaks, Volker Player, Andreas Mlinar and Nicolaus Wesely. The association grew to 105 members, eight of whom were young people.

The active season started in January with some trips on the Kamp, which this year had great water levels of up to 30m³/s. In spring there were two trips along the Reichramingbach in Upper Austria when the water level was high. accomplished. In winter, role training took place at NMS Etsdorf, which was also the social highlight of the club's year – and is already scheduled for 2024. In the dry summer, there was extensive training on the artificial rapids courses in Vienna and Bratislava. The “Solstice trip” on the Kamp, held in cooperation with Plank Lido, and the Christmas trip were also a great success.

Some club members also traveled abroad. Walter Mück, for example, in the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Romania, Michael Esterlus and company in the “High Tatras” in Poland and Slovakia, Leopold Tschockert with his family on a raft and kayak on the Tara in Montenegro and Michael Widhalm in Slovenia, Bavaria and northern Italy.

The title of “kilometer champion” was secured in 2023 by Michael Widhalm (1,815.1 km) ahead of Norbert Loimer (1,101.4 km) and Michael Esterlus (786.8 km). Prema Andexer (685.1 km) won the women's classification ahead of Christiane Gradner (255.6 km) and Christa Esterlus (169.6 km).

The current 27 club boats and accessories are housed in a garage on the 3T company premises. This fleet of rental boats offers members a broad portfolio of current sea kayaks, touring kayaks, and whitewater kayaks. The Gars Kayak Club has one of the largest specialist libraries in the country, and expedition literature in English, Spanish and French can also be found here.
