Archbishop of Canterbury celebrates Anglican liturgy at a Catholic basilica in Rome – Catholic News Agency

“We simply welcomed this liturgy of the Archbishop of Canterbury,” he said, pointing out that no Catholic faithful took part in the celebration and that “it was not blasphemy” but rather a gesture of “brotherhood with this Church which is so close to us.”

Welby is in Rome as part of Ecumenical Week and is also taking part in the “Growing Together” summit organized by the Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission for Unity and Mission.

Yesterday, January 25, the head of the Anglican Church in Rome celebrated a second ecumenical vespers with Pope Francis on the Solemnity of the Conversion of St. Paul in the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls.

During the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which ran from January 18 to 25, various ecumenical events took place in Rome, including a concert by an Anglican choir in St. Peter's Basilica on January 23, also sponsored by the Dicastery for the Advancement of Christianity Unit.
