Biden blames Iran-backed groups

US President Joe Biden has blamed Iranian-backed militias for the attack on the US military base. Biden said the United States “will hold all those responsible accountable at the time and in the way we choose.”

First US soldiers killed since Gaza war and feared escalation

They were the first US soldiers killed in months-long attacks by Iranian-backed militias against US forces across the Middle East during the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Many observers already feared that the situation would worsen.

The US and London responded to the Yemeni Houthis' attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea with counterattacks on the rebels – including in Yemen.

US authorities were still working to identify the group responsible for the attack in Jordan.
