The “grandfather” style, trend of 2024
This is the trend that Pinterest predicts will emerge at the start of 2024: the “Eclectic Grandpa” style. “Grandpa” style means wearing pieces that are reminiscent of… your grandfather’s wardrobe! There are beautiful wool cardigans, sleeveless cardigans, colorful knitwear, large checked jackets, corduroy pants, moccasins, polo shirts, baseball caps and even beautiful, very classic dial watches. Of course we mix all of this with more modern pieces to create this style that young people love. A vintage style that is very ecological since we recycle pieces that we find in second-hand stores or even in our grandfather's or father's closet. These garments, such as patterned knit sweaters or tweed jackets, have stood the test of time and were therefore of high quality, which can make us think about our future purchases. As for the size: if it's a little bigger we'll take it because cardigans and jackets are worn too big anyway, so it's perfect! Harry Styles and Gigi Hadid have already adopted the grandpa look, so it's definitely trending at the start of the year.
The History of Montreal Fashion on Television
A new documentary series showcasing the little-known history of Montreal fashion recently aired on the MAtv channel. The result of a collaboration between designer Jean-Claude Poitras, LaSalle College and Le Grand Costumier. “The History of Fashion – Clothing as a Mirror of Society” takes us back to the past of Montreal fashion, from the 1950s to 2000. A decade at a time. At the same time, each episode gives the creators, models, specialists and Jean-Claude Poitras, the acts as a storyteller, a voice. There will also be fashion shows featuring clothing from the Grand Costumier collection as well as original creations by LaSalle College students. Following the broadcast of the first episode last week, the second, which airs on Monday evening, focuses on the 1960s.

$52,000 for Carrie's tutu

The iconic tutu worn by Carrie Bradshaw in the end credits of Sex and the City was auctioned for $52,000 (nearly CAN$70,000). Patricia Field, the show's costume designer, said she found this white tulle skirt in a showroom and bought it for $5! She then showed it to Sarah Jessica Parker, who immediately loved it. Inextricably linked to the character of Carrie Bradshaw, a true fashion icon in the series launched in 1998, this skirt was one of the pieces auctioned as part of the “Unstoppable: Signature Styles of Iconic Women in Fashion” event. A black velvet dress worn by Princess Diana and a Givenchy ensemble worn by Grace Kelly during American President John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy's visit to Monaco each sold for $325,000 (C$437,000).

Cuddle month is back

Clarins Rose Cuddles lip enhancer to help Sainte-Justine.
This is the 18th edition of the Sainte-Justine Cuddle Month. By purchasing one of the 30,000 Clarins “Cuddly Pink” lip enhancers for $20 at Jean Coutu, $10 will be donated to the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation, which supports maternal and child health across Quebec. This year the work of 12-year-old Ellie-Rose from Lévis can be seen on the packaging. She was selected from among a hundred others by the Draw Me a Hug committee. Children ages 5 to 12 who would like to enter the contest to print their drawing on the next beautifier have until February 15 to submit their cuddle-themed drawing.
