The Detroit Lions have announced their inactives ahead of their NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers.
The Detroit Lions have declared their inactivity ahead of the NFC Championship against the San Francisco 49ers and the big news is that pass rushing specialist James Houston is active and eligible to play in that game.
The Lions made few roster moves this week, most notably placing tight end Brock Wright on injured reserve and signing defensive tackle Tyson Alualu to the active roster. Additionally, the Lions signed fullback Jason Cabinda and offensive lineman Michael Schofield from the practice squad, bringing Detroit's gameday roster to a total of 55 players.
Because the Lions have eight offensive linemen active for Sunday's game, they are authorized to expand their roster from 47 to 48 players on game day. Therefore, the Lions have To because there are 55 players in the squad on game day and 48 are eligible to play seven players inactive for today's matchup.
Inactive Lions:
- QB Hendon Hooker (tooth) – named the team's emergency quarterback
- WR Kalif Raymond (knee) – out Friday
- LG Jonah Jackson (knee) – out Friday
- DT Brodric Martin
- EDGE Charles Harris
- CB Steven Gilmore
- S Tracy Walker
Hooker will once again be the Lions' emergency quarterback, meaning he will be inactive for today's game unless Detroit's other quarterback options are lost due to injury. In this case, Hooker should take action and come into play.
Raymond's absence once again opens the door for Donovan Peoples-Jones, who has filled the role of WR4 and punt returner each of the last two weeks.
Jackson's absence likely opens the door for Kayode Awosika to move into the starting lineup at left-back and made it necessary to promote Schofield for more depth and safety.
With Houston active, the Lions opted to rest veteran Charles Harris, something they did frequently in the second half of the season. Walker has also been inactive recently, joining rookies Martin and Gilmore who are inactive most weeks.
49ers inactive:
- QB Brandon Allen
- WR Willie Snead
- WR Ronnie Bell
- T Matt Pryor
- LB Jalen Graham
- LB Curtis Robinson
- CB Sam Womack
