Monday, May 2nd (Chapter 13)
José Inocêncio asks João Pedro not to tell anyone about the machete buried at Jequitibá's feet. João Pedro decides to live with José Inocêncio. Morena presents João Pedro with the Our Lady medal that belonged to Maria Santa. Time passes and the story now takes place in the present. João Pedro, together with Zinha, brings the sacks of cocoa from the Jequitibá Rei farm to Ilhéus. José Inocêncio complains to Deocleciano about his children.
João Pedro is enchanted when he meets Mariana in Jacutinga's house. José Inocêncio tells João Pedro that he is not doing business with Egídio. Mariana finds out that João Pedro is José Inocêncio's son. João Pedro offers Mariana a job on the farm. Jacutinga shows that he doesn't trust Mariana. José Inocêncio reprimands João Pedro for bringing Mariana to the farm without his permission.
Tuesday, June 2nd (Chapter 14)
João Pedro asks Inácia for help so that his father accepts Mariana. Zinha blames José Augusto for Jupará's death. Mariana searches the drawers in the farmer's room and Inácia scolds her. José Inocêncio is disturbed by Mariana, who confesses to the farmer that she is Belarmino's granddaughter.
Deocletian advises José Inocêncio to be careful around Mariana. João Pedro feels betrayed when he learns that his father and Inácia already knew about Mariana's relationship with Belarmino, and becomes jealous when he sees the young woman and José Inocêncio closer together.
Wednesday, July 2nd (Chapter 15)
Mariana and João Pedro kiss, but the girl says she wants him as a brother. José Inocêncio advises João Pedro not to get involved with Mariana. Inácia comments to Chico that Mariana was the worst ambush Belarmino prepared for José Inocêncio. Mariana complains about the kiss João Pedro gave her.
Zinha talks to Morena about her concern for João Pedro. José Venâncio is not enthusiastic about the surprise party that Eliana and Eriberto organized for his birthday. Venâncio tells Buba that he can't stop thinking about her.
Thursday, August 2nd (Chapter 16)
Eriberto breaks down the door to Eliana's apartment and finds her unconscious. Eliana tells Venâncio that she wants to start a family with him. José Inocêncio complains to Padre Santo because he is still supporting two of his three children who have already graduated. Mariana convinces José Inocêncio to let her travel with him. João Pedro tells Morena that he thinks Mariana likes José Inocêncio. José Inocêncio remembers Maria Santa as he watches Mariana sleep.
Friday, September 2nd (Chapter 17)
José Inocêncio decides to return to the farm, leaving Mariana on the road. Contrary to his father's orders, João Pedro rescues Mariana and brings her back to the farm. Mariana apologizes to José Inocêncio. Mariana tells João Pedro that José Inocêncio accepted her as the young man's daughter and sister.
Kika criticizes José Bento for supporting himself with his father's money. José Inocêncio gives in to Mariana's advances. Venâncio and Eliana welcome José Bento and Kika to their house. José Inocêncio is ashamed of having stayed with Mariana. Mariana gets angry with José Inocêncio.
Saturday, October 2nd (Chapter 18)
José Inocêncio reveals to Deocleciano that he likes Mariana. Mariana leaves João Pedro disappointed, saying that she and José Inocêncio like each other. Bento suggests that José Venâncio talk to her father about dividing the sale of the cocoa harvest among the children.
João Pedro vents to Zinha and tells him that his father stole Mariana from him. Inácia is not surprised by the news of Mariana and José Inocêncio's wedding and tells the girl that she dreamed of Maria Santa. Kika argues with José Bento. José Venâncio is looking for Buba.
