Clashes at Lebanese Israeli border leave two dead and two injured

BEIRUT, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) — Two Hezbollah members were killed and two civilians injured in Israeli raids on Lebanon's southern border today, Lebanese military sources said.

The sources, who did not want to be named, said Israeli forces launched 14 airstrikes on eight towns and villages in southern Lebanon, destroying three houses. Around 100 Israeli projectiles were also fired at 15 towns and villages in the area, destroying eight houses and damaging 25 others.

Separately, the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah said its fighters attacked several Israeli targets in locations including Al-Samaqa, Al-Motella and Zarit Barracks.

The border between Lebanon and Israel has been the scene of increasing tensions since October 8, 2023, after the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets at Israel in support of Hamas's attack against Israel the previous day, to which Israel responded with heavy artillery attacks against the southeast of Lebanon.

Clashes between Hezbollah and Israel left 239 people dead on the Lebanese side, including 173 Hezbollah members and 39 civilians, Lebanese security sources said.
