'She's fine, everyone's fine, we're fine': Jay Leno gives a thumbs up as he shares a positive update on his wife Mavis' battle with dementia, days after filing for guardianship of her estate

Jay Leno gave a quick update on his wife Mavis' recently revealed battle with dementia from the driver's seat of one of his classic cars on Monday.

After being spotted together on Sunday evening, Leno was asked how his wife was doing, days after it was publicly revealed that he had applied for a conservatorship due to her dementia diagnosis.

“She's fine, everyone's fine, we're fine,” said Leno, who appeared to be driving several friends around his neighborhood.

“I just drafted a will in case something happens,” Leno said, trying to clear up any confusion about why exactly he requested the conservatorship.

The 73-year-old wore button-down jeans, a staple of his wardrobe, and gave the cameras a thumbs-up sign as he drove away.

The sighting followed a run-in on Sunday night in which Leno was spotted with his wife Mavis attending a comedy show in Hermosa Beach, California – the first sighting of the two since it was announced that the former late-night host was proposing placed on conservatorship.

The pair were spotted arriving at the Comedy and Magic Club on Sunday, where Leno was scheduled to perform that evening.

Leno grabbed his wife's hand after they got out of their car and headed into the club.

She stayed warm in a pink vest, which she wore over a floral top and black pants. Leno opted for a black suit paired with a blue button-down shirt.

The couple appeared to be doing well after following the news from the conservatory – Leno gave a friendly wave at one point during the outing, while Mavis looked in good spirits as she returned to her car and chatted with a pal.

On Friday, Leno filed for guardianship of his wife, Mavis, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, according to documents.

The filing alleges that Mavis “does not have the capacity to implement the estate plan” due to her “severe neurocognitive impairments (including dementia).”

He described having “a loving marriage” with his wife for “more than 43 years” and noted that he “has always looked after the couple's finances” and wanted to ensure that she “has sufficient assets to care for her.” “To provide care if Jay dies earlier than Mavis.”

It's unclear when Mavis, whom he married in 1980, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, but Leno began the process for the conservatorship in November.

Conservatorship is a legal status in which a court appoints a person to manage the personal and financial affairs of a minor or incapacitated person.

“The conservatorship estate is not funded by assets and is established solely for the purpose of filing a petition for a substituted judgment to ensure that Mavis' estate plan is established and that Mavis' future care is assured under the terms of a living trust .” The documents seen by Fox News state.

“Jay is fully capable of continuing to support Mavis' physical and financial needs, as he has throughout their marriage.”

“Jay wants to implement an estate plan, including a revocable trust and will, that will provide for Mavis and Mavis' brother, as well as their only living heir other than Jay.”

The order also states that Mavis “consents to the restoration of the property” as well as “Jay's appointment as her conservator and that she would not prefer that someone else be appointed in Jay's place.”

During a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Jay said that people should “marry the person they want to be” and that he “married the perfect person.”

The comedian and former TV show host was seen driving around Los Angeles in December in his Tesla Cybertruck, the latest addition to his extensive automobile collection.

This outing came eleven months after he broke his collarbone in a motorcycle accident – an incident that occurred two months after he was burned in an engine fire.

On November 12, 2022, Leno and his friend Dave Killackey were working on one of his vintage cars at his LA mansion when his 1907 White Steam Car burst into flames and exploded in his face.

Then Leno's face caught fire as Killackey said: “I couldn't see his face, it was a wall of fire.”

After preventing Leno's entire body from bursting into flames, Killackey extinguished the fire in the car.

In a recent interview with Piers Morgan, Jay said he went to hospital after the shocking incident and then decided to go home “to tell his wife”.
