“In the area of the port of Hamburg”, the largest in Germany, there are significant traffic disruptions that lead to the blockage of part of the “truck traffic”, the city police warned on the Social network

Convoys of hundreds of tractors also caused traffic delays throughout central Hamburg, while a farmers' demonstration took place outside the train station, authorities added.

Other German seaports were also affected. According to the police, in Lower Saxony (north), farmers blocked access to Jade-Weser-Port, a container port near the city of Wilhelmshaven, with around 40 tractors.

In the Bremerhaven harbor (north), a “gathering” of farmers on an important road axis led to a “significant slowdown” in traffic.

These actions are part of a massive mobilization movement of German farmers who have been speaking out for several weeks against the reform of the taxation of agricultural diesel, which envisages, from 2026, the repeal of an exemption from which they have benefited.

They come after a period of failed negotiations between unions and government and as the rebellious movement has spread to other European countries such as France, Poland and Romania.

These movements particularly target the growing European environmental obligations imposed on the sector, the increase in production costs since the war in Ukraine and the administrative burden on farms.

In France, FNSEA unions and young farmers in the Paris region and northern France prepared on Monday to block main roads to Paris and other cities, planning a “siege” of the capital.
