Sydney, Australia) – She was swimming for her life, seriously injured, the water red with blood – a bull shark right behind her!
On Monday evening at 7:45 pm local time, a shark attack occurred in Sydney Harbor near a pier in Elizabeth Bay: Lauren O'Neill (29) was attacked by a bull shark while swimming and seriously injured the leg. With the last of her strength, she managed to reach the dock and get to safety. The bay is not far from the world famous opera house.
A local resident describes the horrific scene: “Lauren, the victim, climbed up the side of the pier and tried to get to safety.” She dragged her leg behind her. The resident: “The water behind her was red and there was blood everywhere.”

Lauren probably wouldn't have survived if a veterinarian hadn't rushed to help. The vet put special bandages on her to stop the terrible bleeding. She was then taken to a hospital. Her condition is stable and she will undergo surgery today.

Shark attacks in Sydney Harbor are extremely rare. But: “Bull sharks are likely to come from Queensland waters to New South Wales and Sydney in the summer and autumn months in search of food,” said shark researcher Amy Smoothey of the ABC. At dusk, animals often move to shallower waters. In the Sydney Harbor basin, animals are particularly active at night.
The public has now been asked not to swim in the waters for now.
