NHL: Patrick Kane prepares to return

After spending more than two weeks on the sidelines, Patrick Kane could soon return to the Detroit Red Wings lineup.

The former Chicago Blackhawks forward suffered a lower-body injury against the Toronto Maple Leafs on January 14th. After his team's training session on Tuesday, Kane expressed reassurance.

“Nothing over the hip, which is good,” said Kane, whose comments were posted on the National Hockey League website. My hip feels really good. At the same time, it's frustrating when you feel good and something else happens. […] The break is just around the corner and I should be ready to go afterwards. I don’t see any reason why I couldn’t come back after the break.”

As a reminder, Kane underwent hip surgery last summer and had to wait until early December to play his first game of the season. Since signing with the Red Wings on November 28, the 35-year-old forward has recorded seven goals and nine assists for 16 points in 19 games.

Detroit will face the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night. Derek Lalonde's team will then be back in action on February 10th against the Vancouver Canucks.
