The owner of the burnt down Murcia nightclub presents himself

The owner of the nightclub in Murcia, which was devastated by a fire on October 1 that killed 13 people, denied any connection with the club because, as he explained to the judge, for five years he had only performed as a club Intermediary was limited between the owner of the industrial warehouse in which the company is located and its current managers. This is the version expressed in the investigation phase of this procedure by Marco M., who the police investigation into the fires believes to be the owner of the theater, where the officials also assume without a doubt that the fire started. All victims died in the affiliated company Fonda Milagros.

His lawyer, Manuel Maza, had difficulty communicating in front of the many journalists waiting for the hearing to begin, which was delayed for about two hours because the person under investigation was unable to access the capital, Murcia, due to protests in the agricultural sector took place across the country this Tuesday and made access to the city more difficult. According to the lawyer, Marco M. rented the industrial hall on which the two nightclubs are built to another businessman, Manuel Cerezo. It was 2007 and the industrial area of Atalaya in which it is located was not a nightlife district back then. It was Marco M. who founded the Teatre nightclub after an investment of around one million euros and managed it until 2018. At that time, he had already commissioned the project to divide the warehouse in two and decided he wanted to transfer the business, but since the price was similar to the investment made, he opted for a temporary solution: subletting the Teatre y Fonda Milagros . According to his lawyer, Marco M. has been nothing more than a middleman since then: he collects rent from those in charge of the Teatre and the Fonda Milagos, which he in turn uses to pay the owner of the ship. All this temporarily, pending the final transfer of business.

In no case, the lawyer emphasizes, his client had nothing to do with the management of the nightclubs, knew nothing about the party that took place on the night of the tragic fire and certainly did not know how the cold fire machine was used, which police believe caused the fire. He has also denied having any relationship with the employees of the rooms, but has admitted that he was aware of their administrative situation and that they were under orders to cease their activities from 2022. In fact, the lawyer admitted that it was his client who commissioned the project to divide the warehouse where the nightclubs are located in two and it was this division that prompted the city council to do so to issue the closure order.

According to the lawyer, the current managers of the two rooms were aware of this administrative situation, but he also warned that the local administration had allowed the operation, “which was proven, for example, by inspections carried out or even by the police”. Sanctions “local”.

Marco M. also stopped for a few seconds with journalists at the exit of the court to regret the tragedy: “I am very sorry for what happened, it caused enormous damage to everyone.” When I left this room with great sadness Enthusiasm and doing this business, my logical concern was to create a space for entertainment and I am very sorry for what happened, although it has been five years since I left this management, I no longer have that done “Everything that has to do with it. Exploitation of space,” he emphasized.

He has also denied information published in various media outlets that suggested he was wanted and captured. As he explained, his lawyer was in contact with the police and the court “at all times” and he was always “at the disposal” of justice, even when he was not in Spain but dealing with the cases he is running in Latin America.
