Denis Shapovalov lost in the first round of the Marseille tournament on Tuesday.
The 127th player in the world lost in three sets 7:5, 1:6 and 6:3 against Frenchman Hugo Gaston.

It was the second time in a week that the two players faced each other. It was “Shapo” who achieved the best in Montpellier.
In today's duel, the Maple Leaf representative received the break four times. He had a total of 14 break points. Shapovalov also won four points when his rival had the ball. The Ontario native managed 17 but committed seven double faults.
The 24-year-old athlete hasn't made it past the second round of a tournament since the start of this season. He took part in a fourth competition in southern France in 2024.
In the next round, Gaston will face his compatriot Ugo Humbert. Quebec's Félix Auger-Aliassime will also be in action in Marseille, ranked seventh in the event. On Wednesday he will face Frenchman Quentin Halys.
