Our sports betting expert's NHL tip of the day: We're keeping our fingers crossed for a Lightning win in New York

My hockey bets yesterday resulted in a 2-2 score on my mjpicks.com site. Unfortunately, my strategy of betting on the Jets didn't work as the Pittsburgh Penguins were shut out 0-3. A really disappointing result…

But it's a new day with three games in the NHL. One of my favorite bets: a Tampa Bay Lightning win over the New York Rangers. Yes, I’m taking another “outsider” with me!

This choice is supported by one of my betting strategies called “The Crushing Victory”. That's how it works.

According to this strategy, we should bet on a team that has just beaten its previous opponent by a margin of three goals or more. Only do this if the team in question is an “underdog.”

In this case, the Lightning won their last game by three goals when they defeated the New Jersey Devils 6-3 on January 27th. Tonight the Lightning are actually on the road and playing as “underdogs” against the Blueshirts. That meets all betting criteria.

The Rangers won their first game after the All-Star break, defeating the Colorado Avalanche 2-1 in overtime. It was an emotional win against a serious Stanley Cup contender, so there could be a slight downturn tonight when they host Tampa Bay.

Tough, tough against MSG

Before the All-Star break, the Rangers had lost four of their last five games. They then got rid of the Senators and got the final win against the Avalanche. This streak of two straight wins is the first since January 14th and 16th.

The Rangers face an opponent they have had success against in the past. The Lightning have one win and four losses at Madison Square Garden in their last five games in the heart of the Big Apple.

The last meeting of these teams took place on December 30th. The Rangers won 5-1 in Tampa.

The Rangers began their season with an incredible 18-4-1 record, but were just 13-12-2 in their last 27 games. Furthermore, they have failed to win three games in a row in almost three months.

If they want to do that, they'll need to continue their dominance over a Lightning team that was in good shape before the All-Star break. They are 13-5 in 18 games since December 17th.

We're keeping our fingers crossed that Tampa Bay wins tonight at Madison Square Garden!
