“I owe my career to Andy Reid”: Contrite Travis Kelce

LAS VEGAS | If a single moment has overshadowed this another great triumph for the Chiefsit's the fact that fiery tight end Travis Kelce saw fit ranting about his head coach Andy Reid and even pushing him. At least he made amends after the game.

In the second quarter, near the end zone, carrier Isiah Pacheco committed the cardinal sin of dropping the ball. Kelce, who was on the bench during this game, apparently didn't like being left out in the penalty box.

He charged at Reid but was pushed aside by teammate Jerick McKinnon in an attention-grabbing moment.

“I'll keep it between him and me, but I just wanted to tell him how much I love him,” Kelce initially joked in an on-field television interview, before appearing much more remorseful after arriving in the media zone, after long minutes of celebration.

“He is the best coach this sport has ever seen. Not only does he make sure everyone is prepared, but I have never seen a better leader in my life. He helped me a lot to channel my feelings and passion. I owe my career to him. I love him,” Kelce testified.

Reid thinks the whole thing is a joke

Reid, for his part, preferred to laugh it off. It's hard to make a big deal about it after winning.

“He threw me off balance. I wasn't looking. “It was a low blow, but it’s okay,” he said with a hint of a smile.

“He just came up to me and said, 'Let me on the field, I'm going to score a touchdown.' That was all. I like it when he's like that, and it's not the first time. I appreciate that,” Reid assured.

As to why Kelce believes he owes his career to Reid, the mustachioed pilot instead gave him a thumbs up.

“He was a bit emotional today. I have five children, I know how it works. He loves football so much and wants to help the team win. It wasn't a selfish gesture. As much as he can throw himself at me sometimes, I can be on his back. We understand each other,” Reid explained.

An emotional speech

Several players mentioned that Kelce gave a very emotional speech at the team hotel the day before, which even brought some teammates to tears.

“I told them that we have the right formula and that they [les 49ers] haven't mastered it. That being said, I have nothing but respect for the 49ers. You have shown me more than I could have ever imagined. “This team deserved to win as much as we did,” Kelce said.
