Canada Life crisis: A petition to denounce the company and its subcontractor MSH International

Bloc Québécois public services spokesperson Julie Vignola has just sponsored a petition to force insurer Canada Life and its subcontractor MSH International to urgently improve their service delivery.

“MSH emergency lines do not respond in a timely manner, if at all,” laments the petition filed Jan. 31 by Carolyn Smith of Winnipeg.

“Refund requests are miscalculated and invoices are not emailed or mailed at the time of payment,” we read in the petition, sponsored last Saturday by a Bloc Québécois federal MP.

Discouraged policyholders

In recent weeks, Le Journal has reported numerous stories of federal officials running out of patience because their insurer could not reimburse them for the medications they were entitled to.

Last October, Le Journal told the story of Pascale Plourde, who fought to get $3,000 reimbursed from her insurance Canada Life after battling aggressive breast cancer with chemo.

Last October, Le Journal reported that the Bloc Québécois (BQ) had requested an investigation to shed light on the transfer of insurance from Sun Life to Canada Life.

Three months ago, Le Journal revealed that the Financial Markets Authority (AMF) is being inundated with complaints from angry Quebecers against insurer Canada Life for failing to deliver the goods.

The contract awarded to Canada Life in November 2021 to manage the Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP) is worth nearly $515 million. Canada Life is owned by the Power Corporation, which is controlled by the Desmarais clan.

Canada Life and MSH International did not respond to questions from the Journal on Tuesday.
