“The atmosphere is extraordinary. We feel that people have really been waiting for don Juan to return; We even had to add a week of additional appointments to accommodate demand. The enthusiasm is there, it even exceeds our expectations,” the singer continued.
A few minutes after the end of a show in Shanghai, China, Le Journal also contacted her by phone. Roxane Filion then found herself in the middle of a crowd whose admirers systematically waited for the Don Juan artists after each performance.
“We always have at least thirty minutes to sign autographs. And the people are so nice; They try to say a few words to us in French. It makes me proud to be able to sing here in my language and to make our culture known on the other side of the world. “It’s very precious,” admits Isabel’s interpreter in this new version.

In fact, it is in the language of Molière that Changer, The Lovers of Seville, Only Love, Du Pleasure and other Two to Love are heard at the Culture Square Theater in Shanghai. These titles by Félix Gray inspire his reinterpretation of the classic story in which an irresistible heartthrob falls in love with a young woman already promised to another.
Don Juan was first recorded on record in 2003 and made the jump to the stage the following year with a world premiere at the Théâtre St-Denis in Montreal. The show had then introduced singers Jean-François Breau and Marie-Ève Janvier to Quebec audiences.
Lover… of Shanghai
The new Don Juan tour, launched to mark the show's twentieth anniversary, allows Roxane Filion to reunite with her partner Stéphan Côté more than ten years after their first meeting as part of the musical Shéhérazade: Les Mille and a Nights to unite on stage.
“I knew I would experience culture shock here. But Stéphan has come to China to perform in the past, so he helps me a lot with getting used to it. It is truly extraordinary to be able to experience this with him. Together we almost feel at home, even when we walk through the streets of Shanghai,” says the singer.
After the performances in Shanghai ended a few days ago, the Don Juan troupe will perform in Beijing, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Xiamen and Taiwan starting in March. Cindy Daniel (Maria), Olivier Dion (Don Carlos) and Robert Marien (Don Luis) will join the Don Juan troupe only for the performances planned next July in Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec and Trois-Rivières. The title role is played by Italian singer Gian Marco Schiaretti.
- While we wait for the performances in Quebec, a new album with the most important hits from the show will hit stores on February 14th.
