Paul McCartney's official website announced this week that one of the artist's historic bass guitars has been found after 52 years of disappearance. The musical instrument used in Beatles hits was stolen in 1972.
The 1961 bass was recovered following a global movement organized by fans and experts, “The Lost Bass Project,” launched last year to locate the artist's special piece.
Paul purchased the Höfner 500/1 model instrument for $37 from a store in Hamburg, Germany. “This is the bass that McCartney played in Hamburg in 1961, at the Cavern in Liverpool and on the first Abbey Road recordings fueling Beatlemania and shaping the sound of the modern world,” the lawsuit says. “Paul is extremely grateful to everyone involved.”
