Prince Harry explained this Friday (16) that the announcement of the illness of his father, King Charles III, who was diagnosed with cancer, could help bring the British royal family closer together.
The Duke of Sussex, Charles' youngest son, said in an interview with ABC's “Good Morning America” that he “immediately jumped on a plane” to London as soon as he found out about the diagnosis from his own father.
“I love my family,” Harry said in his first public comments about the 75yearold king’s health.
At the beginning of February Charles III. from the United Kingdom diagnosed with cancer the statement did not mention the type of cancer, but the monarch has already started treatment.
Harry is in Canada with his wife Meghan Markle to train ahead of the Invictus Games, an event he is organizing for British military veterans.
When asked whether Charles III's illness. could help reconcile the family, Harry replied: “Yes, I'm sure of that.” The 39yearold prince did not want to provide any further information about his father's health.
“I have more trips planned that will take me to the UK, so I will see my family as often as possible,” he said in the ABC interview this Friday.
Prince Harry stepped down from official duties in 2020 and moved to California, where he lives with his wife and two young children. From then on, he and his wife began to harshly criticize the British monarchy in interviews and in a documentary series on Netflix.
Charles' diagnosis came 17 months into his reign, which began after the death of his 96yearold mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8, 2022.
