EXPANSION: 40 people die in Israeli attacks on the central Gaza Strip

GAZA, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) — At least 40 Palestinians were killed and many more injured in Israeli airstrikes on homes in the central Gaza Strip on Saturday.

Palestinian medical sources told Xinhua that Israeli warplanes launched a series of violent attacks on several houses in the Nuseirat, Al-Zawaida and Deir el-Balah areas of the central Gaza Strip, killing dozens of people and injuring many others.

The sources added that civil defense teams were able to recover 40 bodies while dozens still lay under the rubble, noting that the dead and injured were taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the city of Deir el-Balah.

The Hamas-run Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the Palestinian death toll since Israel's war on the Gaza Strip began on October 7, 2023 has risen to 28,858.

Israel has launched a full-scale military war against the Gaza Strip for the fifth consecutive month after Hamas launched a sudden and unprecedented attack on Israeli towns bordering the Gaza Strip, killing about 1,200 Israelis and taking more than 200 hostages. End
