Blue Jackets: Boone Jenner isn't going anywhere

The Columbus Blue Jackets had a tumultuous week with the firing of general manager Jarmo Kekäläinen, and the man who took his place on an interim basis, John Davidson, was very clear about the team's plans ahead of the trade deadline.

Team captain Boone Jenner would attract several teams looking to strengthen for the playoffs, but Davidson reassured Blue Jackets fans in that regard.

“We get a lot of calls about Boone [Jenner]but Boone isn't going anywhere and Boone doesn't want to go,” he said Friday on The Jeff Marek Show.

The 30-year-old athlete had already stated at the beginning of the week that he wanted to help rebuild his family.

“I want our group to be a successful team, make the playoffs, be relevant and get back on the map as a team,” Jenner said in an interview with Aaron Portzline of The Athletic website.

“I want to be a part of it and what we can become on the other side. I know we still have a long way to go, but we can do it.”

Jenner was selected by the Ohio organization in 2011 and spent his entire career with the Blue Jackets. This season, the center has 16 goals and five assists for 21 points in 37 games. His contract, worth $3.75 million per year, expires at the end of the 2025-2026 season.
